Workshop: Be Part of the Community Process to Create the Future of the Rossland Range, May 20, 2010 Participants in the next step for the FORR have submitted answers on the questionnaire , "FORR Goals: and the Project, Process and Issues" , or attended the workshop to discuss the process. All comments from the workshop were written, typed and are available for review see the Chronological Record page. A summary of the questionnaire answers will be posted shortly.

Backcountry Film Festival Feb 28, 2010, was filled-to-capacity attendance and enjoyed by all! FORR's awareness, membership, and financial goals for the event were met and FORR is grateful to the many and varied volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible. AGM Dec 1, 2009, was especially interesting with Ron Walker's Old Glory Met Station book efforts and Jim Sturgeon's aviator stories about supply drops on top of Old Glory. Both brought photographs to view. Ron Walker spoke about his work to create a book about the Old Glory Met Station. If you know anyone who worked at the Station please contact: Ron Walker, PO Box 242, Christina Lake, BC, V0H 1E0, 250-447-9467, silverbirchresort@shaw.ca Jim Sturgeon of Trail brought his aviator's log book and photos of his airplane that was used to make winter supply drops to the men working on top of Old Glory, and he told stories of Christmas drops and flying in the region. Three resolutions were adopted by the membership that 1) revise the constitution to be more inclusive, 2) allow for a streamkeepers project and 3) allow investigation into a forest demonstration project. The July and August, 2009 community hikes were again a success. Every single person reached the peak and everyone was appreciative of the Paquins' leadership. Many thanks to Suzanne and Rejean Paquin for maintaining what is a wonderful Rossland and Friends of the Rossland Range tradition!
Trails Strategy for British Columbia: Open House on Nov 28 by the Provincial Government was attended by many interested parties in the region. MoTSA took comments on their proposed strategy until Jan 31, 2009.
The "Celebrate the Legacy" display expands by 3 large boards of photographs of "Met Station Life (1943-1968)" and "Generations and Traditions" and a DVD video of weatherman Percy Saltzman's mid-1950's weather report and interview of meteorologist Otto Schwenkte. See the NEW boards and film at the Rossland Public Library through March 29, 2009 and then at the Rossland Historical Museum for its summer season. All 3 FORR DVD films are available for patrons to "check out" through the Rossland Public Library.
The July and August, 2008 community hikes were a grand success again. About 25 people participated in these community hikes in spite of the heat in July. Many thanks to Suzanne and Rejean Paquin for maintaining what is becoming a wonderful Rossland and Friends of the Rossland Range tradition.

Red Shutter Inn Ltd (Big Red Cats') A proposed amendment to their existing tenure for the purpose of temporarily controlling access to specific constructed snow roads has been withdrawn.

The August, 2007 community hikes were a grand success. Even more people than in 2006 participated in the 2007 hikes to Old Glory Peak. All ages and abilities of people from the region were represented on the 2 hikes on August 11 and 25, and we owe many thanks to Suzanne and Rejean Paquin for maintaining what is becoming a wonderful Rossland and Friends of the Rossland Range tradition.
FORR has been vocal in correspondence regarding the Nancy Greene Provincial Park fixed-roof accommodation debate. There will be no fixed-roof accommodation, for now, at Nancy Greene Park. Read the correspondence since Nov, 2006 on the FORR chronological history page.
Celebrate the Legacy: a permanent and traveling display of community photographs of the Rossland Range The free photography and film event on January 29, 2006 was such a great success that the boards of photographs from this event were created as a permanent and traveling display. The first display of the framed boards was in downtown Rossland, the Pro Hardware front windows, on the corner of Washington and Columbia.

Third Annual AGM: About 30 people attended the third annual AGM on Nov 21, 2006 and 1 new director was elected. A variety of topics were discussed, summarized. See the chronological history page for correspondence as a result of discussion about the Nancy Greene Provincial Park fixed roof accommodation issue.
The July and August, 2006 community hikes were a grand success. Over 30 people from the region participated and all ages and abilities were represented.

The Old Glory Alpine: Celebrate the Legacy, Firehall Gallery in Rossland on January 29, 2006. This free photography and film event was a great success.
Second Annual AGM: About 30 people attended the second annual AGM and 2 new directors were elected.
New Cat-skiing Tenure Reinforces Need to Protect Old Glory Alpine. On March 30, 2005, a statement by FORR was released to all regional news media regarding recent news events. The full text of the statement is here. The LWBC tenure offer details were on its website for review.
An Evening of Music and Storytelling is held April 22, 2005, Miner's Hall in Rossland, 7pm. Everyone enjoyed this fun fundraising event!! See the lyrics to Sparky's song in Booty's honor, "All the Old Boys Around Here". $5 per ticket, children are free.
Support the FORR goals by becoming a member. We are asking those members who have not paid dues to submit payment. We are embarking on a community/public education campaign utilizing information bulletins, trailhead signage and maps. The flyers state goals and our First Quarter 2005 work.
Members are urged to state your opinion about resort development and the issue of tenures for commercial use of the backcountry in writing to Sandy Santori, our MLA and Minister of State, Resort Development. Review this informative and well-written note to the membership by FoRR Board Member Ken Holmes. Links are also presented here to provide further information about the BC Resort Task Force Strategy.
